Many, many years ago a watchmaker and his wife lived in a little house in the French town of Alençon. His name was Louis Martin, his wife was called Zèlie and she was a lacemaker. They lived with their four daughters, Marie, Pauline, Leonie and Céline.

On 2nd January 1873, on a cold winter's night, the soft cry of a new-born baby girl was heard. This girl was to become one of the great Doctors of the Church and this book, suitable for children of all ages, tells her story.

Contains colour illustrations by Kati Teague.
