Quick Overview

Dicharry offers this guide and commentary on the Mysteries of the Rosary to assist in a more fruitful meditation.

Product Description

With praying the Rosary resurging in popularity as a private and public devotion, Father Dicharry offers this guide and commentary on the mysteries of the Rosary to assist in more fruitful meditation. Because of the recitation of the Hail Mary, the Rosary is thought of as a Marian devotion. Father Dicharry refocuses our meditation on the true center of the Rosary: the mysteries of Christ's birth, death, and resurrection.
For each mystery Father Dicharry provides a description of the site where the mystery is believed to have occurred, an interpretation of the Scripture texts, and a practical reflection on the subject of the mystery. To each of these aspects, he brings his experiences as a Scripture scholar and teacher, a pilgrim, and a minister.

In addition to the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious mysteries, Father Dicharry introduces us to the Fruitful mysteries. He points out that some of the events of Jesus' ministry are not reflected in the other mysteries. The Fruitful or Spiritual mysteries address this omission and offer us an opportunity to meditate on (1) the baptism and witness of Jesus; (2) the Galilean ministry, notably the Sermon on the Mount; (3) the Transfiguration; (4) the journey to Jerusalem; and (5) the last night of Jesus' life, when he instituted the Eucharist and the New Covenant and gave his last discourse. For those used to praying the mysteries on a weekly cycle, Father Dicharry explains how to incorporate the Fruitful mysteries into that schedule.

Praying the Rosary is offered to those who pray the Rosary and those who want to meditate on the many aspects of its mysteries. Prayerful readers will come away with a renewed interest in and appreciation for the Joyful, Fruitful, Sorrowful, and Glorious mysteries, their sites, Scripture texts, and relevance in their daily lives.
