One interpretation of the word "realization" is "to open one's heart to a truth". If this collection of his sermons is anything to go by John Henry Newman facilitated this each time he preached. This selection of sermons, first published in 1868 whilst living in Oxford, not only reveals his personal and profound knowledge of scripture, but also his ability to convey its meaning and offer thought provoking insights into life to all who heard them. This privilege is given to us today through this book. Newman shows what was true in the 19th century is also true in 2010. DLT is to be commended for making these texts available once more, not simply to celebrate the forthcoming Beatification ceremony of their author, but also so that his words, like those of Him of whom he speaks, may open our heart to a truth.
