This book grew out of twenty-six years' experience in exercising the healing ministry as an ordinary parish priest. Writing with clarity and simplicity, Father Wilson shows that Christ's ministry of healing is part of his whole ministry to mankind, and urges a deeper understanding of its exercise. In particular, he emphasises the role of healing in the ministry of the Church today.

"The Church was meant by Christ to be the body through which he would carry on his work in the world," he says, and the Church's ministry of healing is just the continuation of the healing ministry of Christ on earth. "Our Lord's healing ministry was not something quite apart - not a sort of extra to his other work; it was a normal and necessary part of his whole work of redemption."
